As I type this post, I “owe” almost everyone in my most recent chats something:
- A list of links to check out
- A phone call to make a needed introduction
- A quick website edit
- A website upload
Partly due to my brief hiatus away from work. Partly due to my current semi-tour of the country. Either ways, the work is not done and when people ask me about it, I use the safest and best excuse ever invented: busy.
Busy is a word thrown around very often this days. Everyone is busy engaged in one thing or the other or at least, they make it seem so. What is more harmful to our progress however is the fact that saying you are busy is a generally accepted excuse. The moment you say you are busy, you are immediately let off the hook.
Excuses are excuses to put your brain to sleep. The moment you tell yourself you are too busy to get something done. Your brain locks up and you will never get it done now.
Let us examine ourselves.
Are you really busy or just inefficient? Will you be willing to admit you are not as productive and efficient as you could be? Will you be willing to step away from the busy comfort zone and venture out into higher realms of better strategy and thoughtfulness?
Sure, your status and default response can remain busy forever. But for as long as the work remains undone, you do not get to make any real progress.
