The coke bottle

After I found out that the popular Coca-Cola bottle is clocking 100 this year, I have spent some time thinking about it. The bottle’s iconic design was inspired by a cocoa pod, and now 100 years later, the bottle is still in vogue, relevant as it was 100 years ago.

As a creative type, this really challenges me.

How on earth can a product remain amongst the best in the world for 100 years?? Is it really that “awesome”? What are the principles that lie behind this success story and how can we replicate it?

Some things do not happen by chance or blind luck; designing something that has lasted so long definitely required a lot of planning, research and creativity.

As a creative type, the question on my mind is “can we do better?”. Can we also design and create something that will stay relevant for 100 years? Can we really design something so good that it will resonate with people all around the world?

I do not see any reason why we cannot.
