In search of quotable quotes

There is serious rush for inspiration nowadays, as people seek one liners and deep thoughts they can easily share on social media.

On some levels, an argument can be made that we have more or less trimmed down life into seeking quotable quotes. Looking for the next fantastic combination of words that will get our head spinning.

Well, let me be honest with you; learning all the quotable quotes in the world does not count. If you are still not taking concrete steps in pursuit of your goals, if you are still not taking action, it does not count!

We have somehow replaced technical depth, real skills for fluency in quotable quotes. You discuss with some people and within 10 minutes of your interaction, they have quoted from 35 different sources, all quotes usually out of context. We are now in an era when people actually step out to start businesses and initiatives without first acquiring real knowledge and training with respect to what they want to do.

I once did some analysis and found out that people who attend motivational seminars very often rarely make it in the real world. Majority of them usually end up becoming motivational speakers also, motivating another set of people and the circle repeats itself. I wonder if you have noticed that also?

I think this tells us that the quotes peddled around therefore have no real long term value.

So, maybe you really should stop reading those motivational books. Maybe you should stop cramming quotable quotes. What you really need is knowledge, knowledge is the raw data required for creativity. With knowledge, you begin to actually empower your mind to see things clearly.

It is real skills that gets you ahead, not quotable quotes.
