Suzy Welch argues that the best gift you can get this season is a gift of candor. At least for people hoping for a transformative, truly career-building 2016.
Just ask for the truth about your performance and your future.
You want to find out what people really think about your performance at work, what they really think about your apps, things you designed, articles you wrote, all your ideas and initiatives. You want to find out if your employees think you are the great boss you think you are. You need to find out the answer to the question: “Am I really good at the things I am doing or do I actually suck without even knowing it?”
Far too often, getting a gift of candid feedback, year-end or otherwise is kinda scarce. Not everyone is willing to get on record, so… this season is a great time to change all that. Suzy Welch gives the perfect conversation starter: “Hey, since this is the season of gift-giving, I wonder if you’d give me a present that I’d really appreciate…”
You don’t have to forge forward in your career by navigating in the dark.
P.S.
The truth can be such a bitter pill to swallow. So, brace yourself.
