Apprentice by proxy?

Mentorship and apprenticeship are forms of relationships that must be deliberate.

Not laid back, all in.

I do not think an effective apprenticeship can be done by proxy. You cannot hope to absorb the wisdom of the master by staying away at an arm’s length.

The master secures his future by having apprentice that can carry the torch and the apprentice secures his future by hanging around long enough to collect the torch.

Mentorship or apprenticeship must not be assumed roles; both parties must be in agreement, training takes deliberate steps.

I believe that the modern learning movement has relegated apprenticeship to the back seat. This is not correct, people need serious hands-on training, going beyond the curriculum and really mastering their profession.
