Watch the Word

It is really tough these days to truly believe that there is a God out there and that he can do great and mighty things for his people. Now, the challenge is not that God has suddenly lost his powers or he longer cares about us – far from it.

The real challenge is that too often than not, we have allowed the prevailing situation around us to define our reality. We allow ourselves to submit to the economic condition of the world, we have allowed the economic condition of the world to set our goals and define our limits.

We get too carried away with watching the world that we do not take enough time to watch the word. And the moment we take our eyes off the word and dig deep into the world, we get lost and lose confidence in God.

When Jesus walked on the water and he beckoned on Peter to come, we are told that as long as Peter’s focus was on Jesus he was walking. But then he CHOSE to see the wind, immediately his gaze left Jesus (the author and finisher of our faith), he started seeing some other things and promptly, he started to sink.

How is our current situation different from what happened to Peter?

After spending so many years as Egyptian slaves, God was ready to release them using any means necessary and so he sent a man to deliver his message to them, they could not believe it.

“So Moses told the people of Israel what the Lord had said, but they refused to listen anymore. They had become too discouraged by the brutality of their slavery.” – Exodus 6:9 (NLT)

Their view of the world could not allow them to believe what the word was saying, they had become too discouraged. How is our current situation different from what happened to these folks?

“The WORD of God does not make SENSE, it makes FAITH” – Rev Areogun

It is not only in times past that these things work… It still works today. Thomas J. Stanley (Ph. D) observed that 35% of the millionaire population he surveyed in America claim that their ability to take financial risks and strive in business can be attributed to “having strong religious faith”. I read about another investor that would never buy stocks until he had prayed about it; the results was that while people where losing money, he kept making more money.

So, do not allow what you see in the world today to put limits on you. Do not toss what God is saying unto you into the trash can just because you cannot see any proof in the “real” world. Remember, even if the whole world is struck with darkness, the places where God’s people dwell will always have light. We can infer this from the Egyptian experience documented in Exodus 10: 21 – 23.

What should determine and define your actions is not what the world is saying, not the current economic status, none of it! The only thing valid is this: What is God saying?
