Everybody craves for independence, this feeling of ultimate freedom to do whatsoever you whenever you like. The other side of freedom is that it sometimes leads to recklessness and without any external force to intervene, it leads to demise.
I think everyone needs to find a sweet spot between total independence and dependence, nobody should become so cocky as to declare independence and hence refuse to listen to take words of advise from people again.
I am not saying you should become a suggestion box, giving your ears to every advise issued in your direction. What I am trying to say is that no matter how high you soar in life, you should have 2 or 3 voices in your life that can critically analyse what you are doing and have a say.
No man is an island, no one knows it all. Last time I checked, only God had the power to know it all, as for man…. What can we do?
