Rock the boat a little

As that quote goes: “nothing ventured, nothing gained”.

Another one goes: A ship in harbor is safe… but that is not what ships are built for.

Many people want their life to read like a script with clearly defined road maps and bulletproof plans of how they will live out their years. That age old advice of “go to school, get good grades, get a good job, work hard, please your bosses, get married…. and die” is very good and useful for average people. People who want to blend into the system.

We have not been called to blend in. We have been called to stand out.

That is why there is no way such advice would be relevant to people like me. We want to do work that matters, it is not about pleasing the boss. It is about having a mission and vision that really counts, not just turning up at work everyday because bills need to be paid.

Nothing ventured, Nothing gained.

We have to rock the boat a little, take a little more risks. We have to think bigger and aim higher than we currently are thinking. We need to move out of the harbor, we need to be willing to lose sight of the shore for many many weeks and months. Nothing interesting or outstanding happens in our comfort zone, something rare will probably not come out of the common.

I am not wishing you a problem-free 2016, I wish you have a lot of good problems to solve.

I am not wishing you a stress-free 2016, it is not stress; it is stretching you out to dig deeper into your full potentials.

With all my heart, I need you to take some risks. Deviate a little from the common, normal and boring path. A step to do really meaningful things is that willingness to rock the boat a little by taking risks. Step out of the harbor, do something epic.
