If you desire to create a reputation for yourself, you must be ready to work hard and carve out a niche for yourself.
I see a lot of guys who seem to be brilliant, but they lack the work ethic and patience that is needed to succeed in this line of work. I believe that no matter how brilliant the business idea is, some faith and patience is always needed to move things to the next level.
So, when I see people who ought to be working hard on a specific problem or a specific business mock up a cool logo, some nice quotes and say they are “in consulting”, or “business strategy”, I’m naturally skeptic.
If you want to be in business, just do it. Don’t hold back, don’t seek shortcuts. The best consultants usually have considerable years of experience they gained working “in a real business” and as such, they have practical ideas to share and not just textbook knowledge.
Invest the time and sweat in things that are tangible, that’s how we get to make meaningful impact.
